Gowda to be sworn-in as Karnataka CM today
Karnataka has finally got a new Chief Minister with former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa’s nominee DV Sadananda Gowda being sworn-in on Thursday, August 4.
Gowda was elected as the BJP Legislature party leader on Wednesday. He will be administered the oath of office by Governor H R Bhardwaj at the Raj Bhavan. Gowda decided to advance his swearing-in by a day, in view of President Pratibha Patil’s three-day visit to the city starting from August 5.
On Wednesday, the Karnataka Governor acting on the Lokayukta report gave sanction for prosecution of Yeddyurappa who was indicted in the mining scam.
Gowda won the secret ballot for the post of Karnataka Chief Minister on Wednesday. Gowda won the secret ballot by 8 votes and was elected as the legislative party chief.
“There is a tough task ahead for me. We will try and not to have any difference of opinion amongst the party members,” said Gowda.
58-year-old Sadananda Gowda, a lawyer by profession is a Lok Sabha MP from Udupi, Chikmagalur and is the former state BJP chief.
Yeddyurappa stepped down as the Karnataka Chief Minister after pressure from the BJP top brass following his indictment in the Karnataka Lokayukta report on illegal mining.
